So last weekend, mumma and dadda had a big fight then we decided it was time to rearrange the whole house so it looks like a place where we entertain a tiny kaddu instead of a place where only adults live. We felt pretty good about reducing the sofa to a 3 seater and moving both our tables next to the window. You were not well, same fever and cough so we both took Monday off. On Tue dadda was home with you and mumma went to work. When she came home, you had just finished throwing up in your cot while you were asleep because you had coughed so hard, you vomited! You had had paracetamol 30 mins before you threw up and dadda wasn't sure if he should give you another dose so soon, because you seemed to be getting a fever again.
You were in a good mood though. Happy and playful. Climbing on top of mumma as soon as she sat down near you and trying to stand on your own.
Then mumma smelt something and thought she should change your diaper. She removed all your clothes and took you in to the toilet. While on your changing mat, you looked around a little but didn't move too much. Then suddenly you looked up and your entire body seized up and your limbs started shaking a bit. Mumma yelled for dadda to come. He came and freaked out completely. Saying "baby, baby, baby" over and over again. We didn't know what to do. we thought maybe you were cold, but putting you under a blanket did nothing. Mumma was too freaked out to call Kinder emergency and hung up on a half way attempt because they ask so many stupid questions. So she said "KK emergency, KK emergency, KK emergency! Call a cab!" And dadda did. Dadda was rubbing your back and your chest. Then he asked mumma a chilling question "Is she breathing?". Mumma couldn't feel anything so she said "No." By this time we were in the living room on your play mat. Then you started to breathe a bit. Dadda said your fever is too high. Naani brought a wet cloth to lay on your forehead and body. Slowly you started to make a bit of sound. Like muffled crying. We breathed a little. We got some clothes on you and just ran out of the house.
Scariest 5 mins of our lives.
We were so scared you were gonna fall asleep and since we didn't know if it is ok for you to fall asleep, mumma kept putting a wet cloth on you so you wouldn't sleep. You kept crying quietly in protest, looking very obviously annoyed. We called Kinder emergency and Dr Tan called back in 5 mins, while we were on the way. He said it's normal for you to be exhausted and want to sleep and that it is okay for you to sleep now. He told us it was a febrile seizure caused by a sudden spike in temperature.
We've never seen such a quick turn around at KK emergency before, not even when you fell off the sofa at 5 months old. They said dad do registration and mom go straight in to see the doctor. By the time, the doctor came you were looking more like yourself. In the taxi itself, you had gotten annoyed enough at mumma for not letting you sleep that you finally kicked her with all your energy. Which was such a relief!
The doctor took the details of the entire event and then went to look for the senior doctor. Later they both came back and told us that you need to be admitted for monitoring at least overnight, to make sure you get the right care just in case it happens again. In the meantime you had finally fallen asleep and were peacefully sleeping in your car seat atop the stroller. After about 20 mins of sleeping, while we were waiting for paper work to go through you started coughing quite badly again. Then you threw up the entire milk that you had had in the hospital (yes in your car seat). We cleaned you up and changed your clothes. Then mumma cleaned your car seat. After that we just carried you in our arms.
When mumma called Naani to let her know you are fine, Naani said she has been sitting in the same place and saying maha-mrityunjaya jap since we left. You will be fine. :)
Papa stayed with you in the hospital for 3 nights and slept on this thing which couldn't possibly qualify as a bed. You were too small to qualify for a private room it seems. 🤦♀️
